Our website is now blocked in Russia

On 30 April, the Political Prisoners. Memorial project’s website stopped opening in Russia without a VPN. For some reason, it did not appear in the public list of sites blocked by the federal censorship agency Roskomnadzor.

The day before, Roskomnadzor demanded* our hosting provider to «immediately» remove the information distributed in violation of the “law”. This in the mind of censors appears to be the entire website of our project.

We’re already implementing the system of mirror sites to ease access for our readers in Russia without a VPN. This act of censorship only proves how critically important our work actually is. In light of that, we gratefully appreciate your support in sharing what we are doing with others.

* «Based on the request of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation or his deputy to take measures to restrict access to information resources from 20.04.2024 № 27-31-2024/Treb416-24, a notice of violation of the order of dissemination of information posted at the following URLs: https://memopzk.org is sent.

The hosting provider or other person providing placement of this information resource in the Internet shall:
1) immediately upon receipt of this notice, inform the owner of the information resource of the need to immediately remove the information disseminated in violation of the law;
2) to restrict access to the information resource in case of refusal or inaction of the owner of the information resource to remove the information disseminated in violation of the law.

The owner of the information resource is obliged to remove the information disseminated in violation of the law within twenty-four hours of receiving the relevant notice from the hosting provider or any other person».
