Urgently raising 5000 euros for the political prisoner Azat Miftakhov

Azat Miftakhov is a political prisoner, anarchist and mathematician, convicted in 2019 under the charge of ‘hooliganism’ for allegedly breaking a window in the United Russia party office. In 2023, Azat was arrested upon his release from prison and accused of justifying terrorism.

According to the investigation, Miftakhov ‘intentionally, in the presence of two convicts, publicly justified terrorism’ while serving his sentence in Penal Colony No. 17. Based on the testimony of other inmates, in May 2023, during a TV evening news broadcast, Miftakhov stated that he would ‘avenge’ his deceased friend who had fought alongside Ukraine. The main evidence in the new case against Azat was provided by a confidential informant who claimed that Miftakhov supported the actions of Mikhail Zhlobitsky, who was responsible for the explosion at the Arkhangelsk FSB office.

The ‘Political Prisoners. Memorial’ human rights project is raising 5,000 euros to cover the Azat’s new case legal expenses. Azat is in dire need of the international community’s support and solidarity during these challenging times.
