Seiran Asanov is a Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian citizen who received Russian citizenship after the annexation of Crimea. Asanov served in the Ukrainian army: in July 2024, he was sent to a training unit, and a month later, he was enlisted in the 48th Separate Assault Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces named after Noman Çelebicihan. Two months later, Asanov was captured. In Russia, he was accused of treason—"going over to the enemy"—as well as participating in a terrorist organization and training in terrorism. The court sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment.
