Viacheslav Popovych is a native of the Kherson oblast. After the outbreak of full-scale war, he apparently found himself under occupation and accepted Russian citizenship, but later managed to escape to Ukrainian-controlled territory. There, he joined the Aidar Battalion and took part in military operations, and on May 20, 2024, he was captured. A criminal case was opened against the prisoner of war under articles of treason for defecting to the enemy, participation in a terrorist organization, and training in terrorism. Popovych was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
