On Russian Political Prisoners Day, October 30th, we are launching a campaign to raise 2.6 million roubles (€24,160) for those unjustly imprisoned.
Every day we receive various requests for help from political prisoners and their relatives. It is very difficult to imagine how much the life of a prisoner and his family changes until you encounter the system yourself.
To find and pay for a lawyer, to collect a parcel with medicines, food or clothing, to pay for treatment in the colony, expertise on the case, if necessary – all that amid grief and confusion from the separation from a loved one. Many political prisoners were pillars of support for their families.
It is often the simplest things that keep a person in prison warm: a parcel of good winter shoes, a favourite book, a necessary medicine, or news that their mother has been helped to pay her rent or a vital medicine has been delivered. All acts of our help – even the smallest – bring hope and support for the prisoners of the regime.
Please donate to those who need our help now:
- Daria Polyudova needs 30,000 roubles to top up her FSIN account to pay for dental treatment in the colony. Daria has been in prison since 2020.
- We are collecting 45,000 roubles for Alexei Malyarevsky, who was arrested for coming out with a picket in support of Alexei Navalny. A ten-minute picket on Red Square and a donation to the FBC turned into seven years in prison for Alexei. We are collecting funds for a lawyer’s visit.
- Olga Komleva — a journalist and activist from Bashkortostan, needs to pay €1,330 for 2 months of a lawyer’s work. The ex-volunteer of Navalny’s Ufa headquarters has been in detention since March of this year, and Olga’s case has already started in court.
- Gregory Winter – human rights defender from Cherepovets – we are collecting 80,000 roubles to pay for several visits of a lawyer and to replenish the FSIN account for several months.
- Artur Maslakov, a half-blind political prisoner, needs 21,538 rubles for new glasses. The last time he had his eyesight checked in the colony, the indicator showed already -29. Because of his impaired eyesight, Artur is physically unable to follow the colony’s routine, and for violations, he is regularly put in a punishment cell.
- We are collecting 180,000 roubles for an 18-year-old Lyubov Lizunova from Chita. 120,000 roubles for a lawyer’s fees and 60,000 roubles for 3 months’ transfers.
- To help 21-year-old Alexander Snezhkov from Chita, we are collecting 260,000 roubles – 200,000 roubles for a lawyer’s fees and 60,000 roubles for transfers for 3 months. Alexander and Lyuba, according to the investigation, were administrators of a Telegram channel where they published information about protests against the war in Ukraine and animal protection.
- To Alexey Liptser – one of Alexey Navalny’s lawyers – we are collecting 120,000 rubles for 3 monthly visits to the lawyer to monitor Alexey’s health and conditions of detention.
- Bakhrom Khamroev – human rights activist, head of the Yerdam Foundation for Legal and Social Support of Migrants and member of the Memorial Human Rights Centre – we are collecting 150,000 roubles to pay for visits by a lawyer (90,000 roubles) and dental treatment in the colony (60,000 roubles). In February this year, during a visit, the lawyer learnt that Bakhrom had been beaten up by prison staff. We want to help his family ensure regular visits by a lawyer to monitor his health and conditions of detention. Bahrom also needs treatment for a tooth that is in severe pain due to a crack that has formed. We will organise a dentist to come to the colony, take x-rays and treat the tooth.
- Mikhail Krieger – Moscow activist and co-founder of the Union of Solidarity with Political Prisoners – we are collecting 182,000 roubles to pay for regular visits by a lawyer for 3 months.
- Sergey Lavrov, a political activist from Kursk, needs 30,000 roubles to help him during the first period after his release. In 2020 he was sentenced to 5 years in colony for his posts on VK. On 30 October Sergei is due to be released.
- Pavel Sinelnikov – one of the six defendants in the ‘Viasna’ case – we are collecting 90,000 roubles so that his fiancée can send him parcels for 3 months.
- 120,000 rubles to pay for the obligations of the ‘Union of Solidarity with Political Prisoners’ – this is 3 months of subscriptions to various periodicals for the group of political prisoners supported by the Union.
Unfortunately, we can’t reveal the names of all the people we help.
- 705,000 roubles – for a group of politically imprisoned Ukrainian citizens – to pay for the work of lawyers (case management, regular visits, drafting lawyer’s requests about missing people) and to collect parcels for several months.
- 36,000 roubles are needed for food and clothing parcels for a teenager prosecuted in a sabotage case. His mother is raising 3 children alone and struggles to support her eldest son in the pre-trial detention centre.
- 120,000 roubles – to pay for an appeal and a lawyer’s visit for a captured military person with Russian and Ukrainian citizenship.
In total, we need to collect €24,160. This amount sadly also includes almost €2,200 to pay commissions for transferring funds from euros/dollars to roubles.
Please support the fundraiser! Your support warms the hearts of the unjustly convicted!
